Would it, though? The camshaft wouldn’t have power takeoff on the flywheel side.

I think you’d need to have multiple timing chains - probably one on the flywheel side, and maybe one in the middle ala motorcycle inline 4s - just to keep the cam and crank in sync along the full length.
